My Green Staple

I start nearly every day with a balanced, veggie-loaded smoothie.

While I like to mix it up with whatever I’ve got in my fridge or freezer, I do find I often go back to my favourites, and this is where it’s at when it comes to green smoothies for me. Give this one a go and then feel free to start playing around building your own, but just remember to keep it balanced or it can turn into a sugar frenzy. Make sure you have a 2:1 ratio, veg to fruit, lots of good fats and an extra nutrient kick from premium quality plant-based protein. See Tips for the one I recommend.

Ingredients

thumb tip-size of fresh ginger, peeled

1 tbsp nut butter or raw nuts of choice

1 small banana, frozen pieces or fresh

¼ cup frozen peas

½ cup chopped cucumber

½ small or ¼ large avocado

1 tsp hemp seeds

1 tsp chia seeds

1½ cups unsweetened nut milk of choice

½ cup coconut water

1 tsp maca powder

1 tsp matcha green tea powder

1 sachet of Vanilla Complete Macro (see Tips)

sprinkle of ground cinnamon

sprinkle of ground turmeric

1 – 2 cups fresh spinach and/or kale

Method

Just pop all ingredients into a good quality blender and blitz until smooth.

Sprinkle with a few extra chia seeds and an extra pinch of cinnamon and turmeric, to serve.

Tips

Not all protein powders or wholefood supplements are created equal. Anything but, actually! I’ve been using the same brand for almost 10 years and stand by my choice thanks to personal experience, as well as thousands of happy clients, and 25 years of scientific study behind it. Have a look at My Nutritional Philosophy for more info. As a start, when choosing your protein powder, please ensure it’s top quality, low sugar, and plant-based.
